10:00 a.m. – A Culinary City Tour of Schweinfurt
Schweinfurt reveals its most delightful side on this culinary city tour. At selected stops, regional and artisanal delicacies await, accompanied by interesting and culinary insights into the city’s history. Whether it’s local Secco and Silvaner, handmade pralines and hot chocolate, hearty bratwurst, or farm-fresh ice cream—the tour has plenty of tasty surprises in store.
11:30 a.m. – Lunch break
After strolling through the city, there’s time for a relaxing break. In the city center, numerous bistros and cafés invite you to linger, including the Mainbar, Weinstube Dahms, a small coffee roastery, or Café Pictura at the Georg Schäfer Museum.
1:00 p.m. – Museum visit: Georg Schäfer Museum or Kunsthalle Schweinfurt
The Georg Schäfer Museum features an exceptional collection of 19th-century German painting and drawing. The award-winning building houses the world’s largest collection of works by Carl Spitzweg. On display are well-known paintings such as “The Bookworm,” “The Cactus Lover,” and “The Intercepted Love Letter,” as well as works by Caspar David Friedrich, Max Liebermann, and Max Slevogt.
The Kunsthalle Schweinfurt complements the program in terms of timing and content, focusing on classical modernism and art in Germany after 1945. In addition to paintings, sculptures, and installations, the building itself is worth seeing; it was used as a swimming pool until 2004.
3:00 p.m. – German Bunker Museum or ZF-Sachs Exhibition
The German Bunker Museum is located in an above-ground bunker with concrete walls up to three meters thick. During World War II, the Fichtel-and-Sachs Bunker provided shelter to many people in Schweinfurt. Original exhibits on air raid and civil defense during World War II and the Cold War provide impressive insights into life in the bunker.
Fichtel & Sachs is closely linked to Schweinfurt’s industrial history. In a former production hall, the SACHS exhibition brings 130 years of innovation to life—from the legendary Torpedo free-wheel hub to modern electric drives. The exhibition is complemented by special sections on the company’s and family’s history.
6:00 p.m. – Enjoy Franconian cuisine: Dinner
To round off the day, Franconian culinary delights are on the menu. The Ross-Stuben on Wichtermann-Platz or the Brauhaus on the market square serve typical regional cuisine. Those who prefer a particularly cozy atmosphere will find Schweinfurt’s smallest wine tavern, the Türmle, right by the city wall. Here you can enjoy a Franconian Silvaner and a hearty, rustic snack in a historic setting.
9:00 p.m. – Walk with the Schweinfurt Night Watchman
At the Rathausbogen, the group meets the Schweinfurt Night Watchman and accompanies him on his evening rounds through the Old Town. With fascinating and amusing stories from the early 19th century and the special atmosphere along the old city wall, the tour provides an atmospheric way to end the day.
