Start at the hotel

The day begins with a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. In a relaxed atmosphere, the group gets ready for an eventful day filled with art, history, and culinary delights.

10:00 a.m. – Guided tour of the Old Town and the Stiftsmuseum

The two-hour guided tour begins at Aschaffenburg’s” Schlossplatz” in front of the tourist information office. From here, the tour leads through the historic Old Town to “Stiftsplatz” and the “Stiftsbasilika”, where the city’s history began. Together with the adjacent “Stiftsmuseum”, the basilica houses significant art treasures, including works by Matthias Grünewald as well as Lucas Cranach the Elder and his workshop. The tour is designed for groups of up to 25 people and provides a vivid and in-depth account of Aschaffenburg’s history.

1:00 p.m. – Aschaffenburg’s Culinary Side

After so much art and history, it’s time for a delightful lunch break. Aschaffenburg’s location is also reflected in its cuisine, which features influences from Bavarian, Franconian, and Hessian cooking. Just a short walk from the Christian Schad Museum, traditional eateries like “Schlappeseppel”, “Fegerer”, and “Biersepp” invite you to stop for a bite. The “Wurstbendel” in the city center offers a modern twist: the Brizza, a pizza made from pretzel dough, captures the city’s southern flair in a culinary way.

3:00 p.m. – Johannisburg Palace

In the afternoon, Johannisburg Palace is on the itinerary. The four-winged red sandstone structure, together with the palace church, ranks among the most significant works of the German Late Renaissance. Inside, visitors can enjoy impressive sights, including the world’s largest collection of cork models of ancient Roman buildings and the princely living quarters. The Bavarian State Painting Collections present an extensive collection here, comprising around 280 paintings from the late 18th century. In addition, the palace houses one of the largest collections of works by Lucas Cranach the Elder and his workshop.

4:30 p.m. – A Mediterranean Finale at the Pompejanum

From the castle, the path leads along the Main Terrace through the castle gardens to the Pompejanum. This idealized replica of a Roman villa with a Mediterranean garden provides an atmospheric conclusion to the day. The diverse plant life of the landscape garden and the views of the Main River, the city, and the Spessart Mountains remain a lasting memory for many groups.

Evening – Culture in Aschaffenburg

After dinner, Aschaffenburg offers numerous cultural options. Whether a performance at the neoclassical City Theater, cabaret in the Hofgarten in the former orangery of Schöntal Park, or a concert in the legendary Colos Hall—the evening program can be tailored in many ways and provides a fitting, atmospheric conclusion to the day.

Through his works, 20th-century art movements are vividly placed within their historical context.

Afterward, the route leads to “Schönbusch Park”. Following lunch at “Kulinarisches Schönbusch”, there is time for a guided or self-guided tour through one of Germany’s largest and oldest English landscape parks. “Schönbusch Park”, with Schönbusch Palace, offers sweeping views, water features, and historic garden architecture, providing a peaceful, nature-filled conclusion to the group tour.
