8:00–9:00 a.m. – Morning stroll through the old town

The day begins at the lively market square with the magnificent Luitpold Fountain, the Rococo town hall, and the characteristic half-timbered houses. The surrounding cafés offer the perfect opportunity for a first cup of coffee or a relaxed breakfast. The market square is an ideal starting point to soak up Kulmbach’s atmosphere at your own pace.

9:00–10:00 a.m. – Kulmbach’s Historic Craftsmen’s Quarter & Bathhouse

Just a few steps away lies the Oberhacken district, one of the oldest and most atmospheric neighborhoods in the city. Lovingly restored half-timbered houses dominate the scene, including the former bathhouse dating from 1398. Today it serves as a museum and gallery, offering vivid insights into historical daily life.

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Walk to the Rehturm & Rehberg

An attractive hiking route leads from the market square up to the Rehturm on the Rehberg. The idyllic nature trail, featuring a barefoot path and information stations, winds through diverse natural scenery for about four kilometers. Once at the top, a sweeping view of Kulmbach and the surrounding region unfolds.

12:00 – 1:00 PM – Lunch Break

Back in the old town, traditional Franconian restaurants invite you to stop for lunch. At places like the Stadtschänke or the Bierhäusla, we’ll enjoy regional cuisine, accompanied by a freshly tapped Seidla—the perfect refreshment to fuel the rest of the day.

1:30 – 3:00 PM – Plassenburg Kulmbach

In the afternoon, the itinerary includes a visit to Plassenburg, one of the city’s landmarks. This imposing fortress is easily accessible on foot or by bus. Within its walls, it houses several important museums: the German Tin Figure Museum, which boasts the world’s largest collection; the Obermain Regional Museum; the Army Museum; and the Hohenzollern Museum in Franconia. The spacious inner courtyard and the view from the rotunda offer sweeping vistas beyond the city.

3:00 – 5:00 PM – Museums at the Kulmbach Mönchshof & Beer Culture

Afterward, a visit to the Kulmbach Mönchshof is well worth it. At the Bavarian Brewery Museum, we’ll learn interesting facts about the history of beer brewing from antiquity to the present day—complemented by interactive stations, historical exhibits, and the Glass Brewery with a museum beer tasting. The German Spice Museum and the Bavarian Bakery Museum enhance the experience with scent, taste, and cultural stations centered on bread and spice culture. A beer tasting rounds out the visit.

Starting at 6:00 PM – Dinner at the Kommunbräu private brewery

We’ll spend the evening at the Kulmbach Kommunbräu. In a cozy atmosphere, traditional and modern Franconian delicacies as well as international dishes are served—preferably with products from regional suppliers. This is accompanied by house-brewed, natural beer. An atmospheric way to end the day.
