10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – The Fascination of a World Heritage Site

The UNESCO World Heritage Site “Old Town of Bamberg” kicks off our day. On an individual city tour, a personal, certified tour guide accompanies us through the narrow alleys of the Old Town to Cathedral Square. Passing the Imperial Cathedral, the Old Court, and the New Residence with its rose garden, we experience the city’s historic centers. The buildings house important museums such as the Diocesan Museum, the Historical Museum, and the State Library. A special highlight is the Old Town Hall, which has stood impressively in the middle of the water for centuries.

12:30 – 1:00 PM – World Heritage Visitor Center

At the end of the tour, we will visit the World Heritage Visitor Center. The interactive exhibition highlights Bamberg’s universal value and showcases the unique features of the “Mountain City,” “Island City,” and “Garden City.” We will also learn more about Bamberg’s significance within the international UNESCO context.

1:00 – 2:00 PM – Franconian Lunch

We’ll enjoy a Franconian lunch at a traditional (brewery) restaurant. Classics like Bamberg “Schäuferla” or “Bamberg Zwiebel” will be paired with craft-brewed Bamberg beer.

2:00 – 5:30 p.m. – Modern Art or Tradition in the Garden City

Option A: Modern Art Meets Historic Monuments

We discover large-scale sculptures by international artists in public spaces. The route leads along the historic Way of the Cross up to “Michaelsberg”, offering a magnificent view of the city. At St. Michael’s Monastery, we’ll visit the newly renovated church with its famous Heavenly Garden (opening in May 2026), the adjacent information center, the monastery garden shop selling Michaelsberg wine, and a cozy café. Optionally, we can visit the Franconian Brewery Museum

Option B: Tradition and Customs in the Gardeners’ Quarter

Alternatively, we’ll explore the Gardeners’ Quarter, a unique urban landscape where vegetable farming remains a living tradition to this day. Highlights include the “Leaning Tower” observation deck and the Gardeners’ and Winegrowers’ Museum.

5:30 – 7:00 PM – Stop at a Bamberg Keller

To round off the day, we’ll stop at one of Bamberg’s Kellers, which are located directly above the historic storage cellars. We’ll end the day in a relaxed atmosphere with a hearty snack and a refreshing beer.

Late evening – time varies

The evening can be customized, for example with a performance by the “Theater der Schatten” or a night watchman tour. Alternatively, themed tours featuring the Bamberg executioner or the “Räuberbraut” (robber’s bride), as well as various ghost tours, are available.
